Playwright and Director bios:
Kevin Brofsky (playwright, Dancing Straight) is the author of the recent Emerging Artists Theater (EAT) production of Claymont. His one-act play Strawberry Fields was published by Samuel French in their 25th Annual Off-Off Broadway Festival series. He has written nearly 50 one-act plays which are widely performed in cities across the country. New York City productions of his full-length plays include Stars (New Village Productions and Spotlight Production; Awaken the Wolves (Spotlight Productions) both winner of Spotlight's Best Play Awards; Living with Dragons (Pulse Theater); the book for the musical Northern Boulevard (AMAS Theater) which starred Rosetta LeNoire and The Matinee Ladies (Greenwich House and last summer at SNAP Productions in Omaha).
Mark Finley (playwright, How Do We Get Her in the Water?; director, Dancing Straight, Speaking Parts; artistic director, TOSOS II) TOSOS II directing credits include Chris Weikel’s double bill of Gareth and Lynette and Penny Penniworth (2003 FringeNYC Festival); Doric Wilson’s A Perfect Relationship (2003 OOBR Award), the long run of Street Theater (Eagle NYC) and the recent production of his adaptation of Young Stowaways in Space. In NYC he has directed for Emerging Artists Theater (EAT) including Jonathan Reuning's Crewneck (PSNBC at HERE); Ted LoRusso's Not I; and Bill McMahon's Pearls and Dignity (both for the Samuel French Festival). His productions of Mark Lambeck's Tuna and Jack and Kevin Brofsky's I Came to New York to Dream were finalists in the Turnip 10-minute play competition at the American Globe Theater. Mark has also directed for the Abingdon Theatre, the Neighborhood Playhouse and the NativeAliens Theater Collective. He is a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts. (finberg1@juno.com)
Kevin Thomsen (director, How Do We Get Her in the Water?) directed Mark Finley's first play, Memorial, twenty years ago at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Since then, he has directed many off-off B'way plays, including the original production of How Do We Get Her in the Water? at the Grove Street Playhouse. Kevin was a creator/writer and co-producer of MTV's animated series Spy Groove (2000). In 2002, he scripted Revlon's 007 Color Collection launch featuring John Cleese. A short film he wrote and co-produced, The Quality of Mercy, was an international film festival favorite; short-listed for an Oscar Nomination in 2003 and recently shown on Cinemax. Through his company, Thomsen Scott Productions, Kevin is an award-winning voice director of animation, videogames and audiobooks, receiving both a Grammy nomination and a Gold Record.
Chris Weikel (playwright, Speaking Parts) is a founding member of TOSOS II and has been a member of Emerging Artists Theatre (EAT) since 1999. TOSOS II produced his Penny Penniworth and Gareth & Lynette as Tales Told in June of 2002 and revived Penny Penniworth as a "must see" in the 2003 FringeNYC Festival. EAT produced his play The Way-Weary (Kennedy Center Finalist, Playwright’s First Semifinalist) and the premieres of his Lost Boys, Dansport, Gareth & Lynette and Faithfully Presented. Dansport was subsequently featured in the Samuel French Festival and Gareth & Lynette was part of "Off-Off Broadway Unites", a benefit for victims of the WTC tragedy. D-Stages premiered his Speaking Parts and Appointed Limits in the Off-Center festival. His Changing of the Guard was a semifinalist in the Mill Mountain New Play Competition, and he was commissioned by American Stage Company (St. Petersburg, FL) to write an adaptation of Dylan Thomas's A Child's Christmas in Wales for it's 2000 season. American Stage included the Way-weary in its 2001 New Visions reading series. He is also an acting and design member of TOSOS II.
